Why is Tech Hiring BROKEN?
Tech hiring is broken because non-developers are running it. Most HRs are not technical and sharing a DSA test link is much more easier for them to filter. You can check out our hiring tests here which assess real-world skills instead!
This conversation happened with a founder 2 days back:
Me: Can you share details about the interview process? What rounds are there? Is DSA asked - if yes, what level? (this is always my first question, to see whether we can onboard them as our hiring partner or not)
Founder: Our major problem is that we're short on interview bandwidth. Our interview-to-selection ratio is very bad.
Me: Two ways to go about this. Either use an interview-as-a-service platform or outsource it to us where we can handle the entire pipeline for you end-to-end. Can you share your current process?
Founder: I don't have expertise for most of the tech roles we're hiring for. Our HR uses ChatGPT to create basic questions to filter and then schedules the interview.
Me: 😅😅😅
Can we please set up a call with your tech team?
This is a common scenario that I see in many companies. There's so much disconnect in the system. Everyone's working independently on their KPIs only without the bigger picture. Penny wise, pound foolish.
Involve your tech team at the screening process itself. Have them design the process which can then be run by HR professionals. Else your devs will keep spending their valuable time in taking interviews rather than writing code.
